The Friends of South Park Gardens was established in 2002 to look after the interests of the Gardens and to work to improve and maintain the Gardens for the benefit of the local community. Read the Consitution. In the early years the priority was to restore the Gardens. The Friends of South Park Gardens and Merton Council collaborated on undertaking a feasibility study to restore and improve the Gardens and applied for a grant to the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF). After a number of years of joint hard work, a Grant of just over £1m was achieved. Click here for more about the HLF project.

With the Gardens restored, the Friends continue to work to maintain and improve them for the benefit of the Community. We raise funds through membership fees and Events. History, bird and tree trail leaflets are available from the Garden Room or you can download a copy by clicking on the name of the relevant leaflet above.

Who we are

The FSPG trustees and members of the executive committee are all local residents who love the gardens and wish to see them continuing to play a central role in the lives of the local community.

Behind the scenes

As well as organising the popular Easter Egg Hunt, Summer Celebration, Cream Teas and Autumn/Winter Events, we work with the the council on maintenance issues, refurbishment projects like the compound, litter management and security. We send out four newsletters a year to keep the local community informed about the Gardens, maintain a large membership database, organise hiring of the Garden Room and manage the building on behalf of the council.

There are many ways to get involved. You could simply join us! Your membership helps by demonstrating the commitment of local residents to the Gardens. Or you could volunteer as our events take a lot of organising; we’re only a small team and there are many ways in which you could help.
